The abundant changes in Google organic search (SEO) landscape lately by Google made it tough for the common e-marketer to keep up. The algorithm update to the Review Snippets today didn’t create much buzz. Reviews are important in any online purchases and is becoming more prominent, however there are questionable practices due to fraud. Google is trying to enhance review snippets by updating the algorithm and also implementing some new changes.
The algorithm and other update is to help address abusive implementation (aka SPAM) and impose limits to where rich results trigger via:
REQUIRED “NAME” PROPERTY: The most substantial update to Reviews Rich Results is the mandatory requirement of the name property in the featured snippets.
PROHIBITING SELF-SERVING REVIEWS: “self-serving review” is when a review about entity A is placed on the website of entity A.
